What is a multibet?

The multi bet is often referred to as the parlay or accumulator, and it all means the same thing. Essentially, bettors are putting multiple bets onto the same card, with the understanding that most of the time, every one of those picks has to be successful in order for the multi bet to be graded as a victory. This can be difficult to accomplish, depending on the picks that are placed as a part of the multi. And with payouts that can vary greatly based on the lines of each leg, the value of each multibet can vary substantially as well.

How does a multibet work?

There are several different multiple bet types out there, that can function in different ways. There is the standard parlay bet, where a bettor needs all of their selections on a ticket to hit for the bet to pay out. Then there are the multi bets like the system bet, which makes multiple bets out of a few selections even if those selections don’t all need to come in for money to be made. But the most common multiple bet type is the accumulator or parlay wager. Here is a quick look at the different multis that exist.

  • Parlays
  • Teasers
  • System wagers
  • Reverse teasers

With those multiple bet options explained, it is time to learn how to put down a multibet. The first step toward completing that process is select all of the components to the multi that the bettors wants in their wager. The more legs there are to a bet, the more it is likely to pay out, depending on the odds. And with some bookmakers allowing parlays as large as 20 legs, there is no shortage in the potential for a big parlay hit.

After the components to the bet have been chosen, a bettor can then decide what kind of multi bet they want to put down. These usually show up on the betslip as options once enough selections have been made to satisfy the requirements of each bet. Once the bet type has been chosen, bettors can select how much they would like to risk on their bet. How each multi bet accepts risk amounts depends on the type of bet in question, so bettors should keep an eye out for anything they aren’t used to. And once a stake has been chosen, the bet can be finalized and the process completed.

Advantages of using a multibet

There are several advantages to playing multi bets, with the first of those advantages being that there are multiple bet options that fall under the multibet umbrella. Bettors can go all or nothing with their parlay wagers or give themselves a chance to cash without needing every selection to be victorious with the different system wagers that exist out there. Either way, bettors are given plenty of choices that they can take advantage of under the multibet umbrella.

Also working in the favor of multibets is the fact that it is easier to place these kinds of wagers than ever. Bettors can set up their multibet login on a desktop device or a multibet app and perform wagers no matter where they are. Added convenience has been a big part of the sportsbook game for a long time now, and advances in technology have only made it easier for bettors to get their multis in regardless of location. These wagers can also be put together across several league competitions or outside of league play in many different sports.

Drawbacks to using a multibet

There are a couple of drawbacks to consider with multibets to go along with all of the positives. First is how difficult it can be to cash with multibets. While some bettors have figured out how to make them work in their favor, there is still incredible difficulty associated with making multiple winning wagers simultaneously. Bettors need to make sure they are smart with their bankrolls to avoid being impacted by this reality.

Also, bettors who may be a little more calm might not like how much is going on with multibets. As opposed to a single bet, where bettors are tasked with following along with one bet, the multi requires bettors to keep their eyes on several wagers at once. That can get confusing, or at least a little disorienting to bettors who have not done it before. But with practice, following multiple wagers at the same time will not be an issue.

Example of a multibet

Here is a quick example of multibet gambling, where we are going to showcase a parlay wager to demonstrate how it works. For this example, we are going to take one team in each of two football games against the spread. Typically, those odds would be in the neighborhood of –110, so that is what we are going to use in this example.

The two selections at –110 each would require bettors to risk $110 to earn $100 in each of them, with a potential maximum profit of $200 from those selections. A parlay wager, though, has odds of +236 or so for the two-team parlay in our hypothetical situation. So instead of risking $220 to earn $200, bettors can risk $100 to earn $236, which would be a much better return on investment than the original pair of single wagers with a free $236 of bonus profits.

Of course, there is a reason that the odds are higher for the parlay bet, and that is the fact that it is harder for bettors to get both picks to hit together than it is for at least one of them to win separately. Multi betting is inherently subject to these issues, as the probability of every event coming true is just not as likely as one of the two happening.

Granted, probabilities can change based on a number of factors, with the odds of each selection being chief among them. If a bettor makes a parlay full of heavy favorites, it is more likely to have each individual component come out ahead, but might still struggle to win as a whole if enough of those picks are stacked on top of each other.

Multi betting tips

Now that bettors have had betting multiples explained in a little further detail, it is time to talk strategy and tips. And the first piece of strategy that bettors should think about is choosing the multibet that works best for what they want to do. If a bettor feels confident in all of their selections and wants to put all of them to the test, they may want to take part in a parlay bet such as a treble bet where all three legs have to win for a hefty payout to be achieved.

On the other side, a bettor might feel confident in their selections but might not want to risk needing every match result to come in for them. In that case, the system bet might be a better idea for them to feel free to use. One of the biggest and most important multibet tips a bettor can receive is to make sure they are comfortable with a bet more so than they are comfortable with the potential payout, and setting up a multi is no different.

Additionally, bettors who are placing multis should think about adding an underdog or two into the mix. With multi wagers, an underdog winning can greatly increase the payouts experienced when the entire wager is graded. And if a bettor can spot an opportunity to back an underdog in such a way, they could stand to make plenty of cash as a result.
