Bettors Backing Philadelphia Eagles Following 2022 NFL Draft HaulBetting
The 2022 NFL Draft produced some surprises and plenty of excitement with loads of trades and movement up and down the board.
One team that most NFL experts say fared very well in the draft was the Philadelphia Eagles. And many bettors agreed, flocking to sportsbooks and sports betting apps to wager on the Eagles winning the Super Bowl next year.
That would certainly be a surprise if Philadelphia were able to capture the title next season, considering they find themselves with odds of +3300 at most sportsbook, which ranks them right in the middle of all teams.
The Eagles’ Draft Haul
About a month before the NFL Draft, all eyes were on the Eagles, as they held three first-round draft picks. They ended up trading one of those picks to the New Orleans Saints for a 2023 first-round pick (and other selections), but that still left them with two picks in the middle of the first round.
Come draft night, the Eagles ended up moving up two spots in a trade to grab big-bodied defensive tackle Jordan Davis out of the University of Georgia. He is expected to plug some holes in the middle of Philly’s defensive line.
That certainly was a big move on the Eagles’ part, but the really big splash came not long after. Instead of selecting a player with the second of their two first-round picks, Philadelphia traded it to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for star wide receiver A.J. Brown. Brown’s presence should lift an Eagles’ offense that looks to be on the rise, and will be relying on young quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The Eagles also landed perhaps the biggest steal of the draft when they selected middle linebacker Nakobe Dean from the University of Georgia with their third-round pick at #83 overall. Many draft pundits had thought Dean might be selected in the first round, so that was quite the steal for the Eagles.
Those three transactions alone could considerably change the Eagles’ fortunes for the upcoming season, when it looks like their division, the NFC East, is primed for the picking.
What the Odds Look Like
Following the NFL Draft, the Eagles’ odds to win the Super Bowl decreased, but only slightly. A draft haul usually won’t change a team’s fortunes overnight, though many bettors are hoping that the players they got add a spark that could vault them to the next level.
Some sportsbook operators have said that the Eagles have attracted the most betting attention on futures bets to win the Super Bowl since the NFL Draft ended.
Other popular bets on the Eagles have been for them to win the NFC East (at +225) and to win the NFC Championship (+2000). The Eagles’ still aren’t even favored to win their own division, though. The Dallas Cowboys still hold that unofficial title, with odds of -111.
Last season, the Eagles made a somewhat surprising run to the playoffs. They finished with a 9-8 record, but qualified for the playoffs thanks to the NFL expanding the number of teams that qualify by one in each conference. Philly would end up losing their one and only playoff game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but even making it to the playoffs was a surprising feat for them last season.
Will they be able to take it a few steps further this season and award bettors as a result? Time will tell, but if they do, plenty of people are going to be celebrating quite a lot.
